Bay Area Ambassadors Lose U.S. Open Cup Play-in Game
Oakland, CA (April 30, 2012)- The Bay Area Ambassadors (Ambassadors) fell to the Stanislaus United Turlock Express (Express) 3-0. The Ambassadors fail to qualify for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with the loss.
From the first whistle, the Ambassadors controlled possession in the game creating chance after chance. The first good chance would come from a stellar shot by Ahmad Hatifie that hit the crossbar. Brayan Walle followed and headed the rebound over the goal. Walle would have another chance when he found himself in behind the defense by a great pass from Stefan Clemens, but he would fail to put his shot on frame. The Express had one chance off a counterattack and the only goal of the first half. Javier Hill of the Ambassadors had one more chance before the half but sent the ball over the goal. The score at half was 1-0.
With the Ambassadors needing to score, they pushed numbers forward leaving two in the back for most of the half. They would continue to create good goal scoring chances and miss them. Francis Lopez had two chances that were saved by the goalie. The Express capitalized on the Ambassadors pressing forward by adding two more goals throughout the second half. The game ended 3-0.
The Ambassadors return to National Premier Soccer League season action this Saturday against the North Coast Tsunami. The game will be played at Ramindo Park in Oakland at 7:00 p.m. Look for updates on the Ambassadors’ website (www.fcbayarea.com) and Twitter(@baafc).
