Bay Area Ambassadors Host U.S Open Cup Play-in Game
Oakland, CA (April 23, 2012)- The Bay Area Ambassadors (Ambassadors) will play the Stanislaus United Turlock Express (Express) this weekend for the final spot in the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup (U.S. Open Cup). The match will be played in Richmond at Richmond High School Saturday April 28th, at 5:00 p.m.
The Ambassadors are coming off a tough three game stretch where they came away with two losses and one tie. However, they remain unbeaten at home and will look to build on that success this Saturday. The Ambassadors are also undefeated in U.S. Open Cup qualification thus far. They are hoping to regain momentum in their season as they look to qualify for the U.S. Open Cup.
The strong and consistent play of Javier Hill (Hill), Jordan Keyes (Keyes), and goalie Doug Herrick (Herrick) has been vital on the road to qualification. Hill has been the creative spark for the offense being the catalyst for goal scoring opportunities. Keyes’ solid presence can be felt across the backline as he has filled at center back and left back. Herrick has played a huge role whether it is making game changing saves or organizing the team from the back.
The Express is the U.S. Club Soccer representative in the U.S. Open Cup. The Ambassadors and the Express have never met before.
Please come support the Ambassadors in this weekend. Richmond High School is located at 1250 23rd Street in Richmond. Look for updates on the Ambassadors’ website (www.fcbayarea.com) and Twitter (@baafc).
The qualifying tournament is complete and US Club Soccer has crowned a champion that they hope will become the organization's first-ever entry into the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Stanislaus United Turlock Express defeated Napoli, 5-2 at Chukchansi Park in Fresno to earn a spot in next weekend's play-in game against the National Premier Soccer League's (NPSL) Bay Area Ambassadors. The winner will qualify for the 99th edition of the US Open Cup. Go to original Article.
